The
Houlton Band's Education Department provides educational and employment support
services to the Tribal Membership. Services that we offer include:
Higher & Adult Vocational Education
- Students must be on HBMI Tribal Roll and 18 years of age or older.
- Have 30-day prior residency in Maine prior to applying to college.
- School must accept Native American tuition waiver.
- Once accepted, books and supplies are paid for.
- Student's grades must not fall below 2.0 or "C" average.

Adult Education
- Students must be on HBMI Tribal Roll and 18 years of age or older.
- Live in Aroostook County (Service Area).
- Have 30-day prior Maine residency prior to application.
- Programs available:
- Basic Adult Education
- GED & Diploma Programs
- Alternative Education
- S.A.V.E. (Southern Aroostook Vocational Education) vocational classes
Employment Assistance
- Individuals must be on HBMI Tribal Roll and 18 years of age or older.
- Live in Aroostook County (Service Area).
- Assistance is provided once per fiscal year.
- Individual must provide proof of new employment and proof of permanent employment.
Johnson O'Malley
- Provides supplemental services to students between grades Pre-K through 12th.
- Provides assistance to students in Aroostook County.
- School Liason Worker maintains and develops rapport with area schools, administrations, families and service agencies.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
- Open to any parent, grandparent or interested adult.
- Is formulated by the interested adults wishing to provide support to the Education Department, student and community families.
- Is involved in activities that provide student support like fund raisers, program funding, decision making, etc.
Summer Youth/Youth Experience
- Individual must be unemployed and seeking permanent employment.
- Provides 8 week program for 14 - 21 year olds.
- Provides 12 week program for adults at minimum wage.
- Eligibility is based on income from past 6 months.
- Individual will work for non-profit organizations only.
- Individuals must live in Aroostook County (Service Area).
- Individual can be serviced once per year.
- Preference to those with limited prior work experience with the program.
Job Search
- Individuals must live in Aroostook County (Service Area).
- Individuals must be on HBMI Tribal Roll and 16 years of age or older.
- Provides information on resume writing, interview techniques, job search and career counseling.
