Projects......
- The Natural Resources Department maintains
a natural history display and macro-invertebrate collection. Tribal members
and guests are encouraged to explore these collections whenever they visit
the Administration Building.
- We have also participated in the fall harvest
of muskrat root (Acorus calamus) and have dried root available for the asking.
- The Department publishes a
newsletter "Skitkomiq Nutacomit" four times per year, highlighting the activities
of the Department as well as stories, songs in the Maliseet Language and
other, cultural environmental items.
- For the past few years, we've
hired four temporary summer technicians to work with the Water Resources
and the Environmental Protection/Forestry programs. The summer techs get
hands on training in these fields while working to enhance and protect tribal
resources.
- Working with the USFWS to complete
and implement a wildlife habitat assessment.
- Working with the State of Maine
Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to complete a fish habitat assessment
in Meduxnekeag River.
- Continuing to be a reference
and source of environmental information and opportunities for the tribal
community.
